Affordable tree removal in Leicester

Questions And Answers

How much does tree removal cost?

The cost will depend on factors such as the size of the tree, whether you want us to just cut it down and leave it, whether you want us to cut it into manageable pieces, or whether you want us to remove it completely. However, it will normally cost from £200 – £400. You find our prices here.

What factors affect the cost of tree removal?

The cost is influenced by several key factors:

  • Size: Larger trees require more time and safety precautions, which increases the overall cost.

  • Access: Easy access for our crew and equipment can simplify the job and lower the price.

  • Removal technique: Removing it through straight felling is typically more affordable than sectional felling, which involves taking the tree down in smaller pieces.

  • Aftercare: The final price can also vary based on what you want done with the wood. We can cut the tree into smaller lengths, remove all the debris, or leave it on the ground for you. The less work required, the lower the cost.

Do you charge for estimates?

No, we offer a completely free and no-obligation inspection. After the inspection, we will give you a free quote. Should you not want to proceed, we part as friends and you have not incurred any costs.

How long does it take to get an estimate, and how long is it valid?

We aim to provide estimates within 1–3 days of your inquiry, with a same-day site visit if possible. During busy times of the year, it may take longer to get over for a free inspection. Quotes are normally valid for 30 days, allowing time for decisions or permit applications.

Are there any discounts available?

Yes. Should you want to have two or more trees removed at the same time, we can in most cases offer you a discount.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept bank transfers, credit/debit cards, and cash. Payment is due upon completion of the work.

Do you offer emergency tree removal services?

Yes, we aim to provide an emergency response for urgent work. Call us anytime, and we’ll do our very best to accommodate a quick resolution.

Why should I hire a professional?

You may be able to do a small job yourself. However, hiring a professional can be smart for safety, protecting your property, and ensuring the job is done correctly. It can be a highly dangerous task, and in many cases it requires specialised knowledge and equipment to avoid serious damage. A professional not only has the right tools for the job but also handles the entire process efficiently, from safe removal to complete cleanup, saving you time and effort.

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Leicester?

You may, and it would be smart to check with the local council before proceeding. The need for a permit primarily depends on whether the tree is protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or if it is located within a Conservation Area. Removing a protected tree without permission can lead to significant fines. If you hire us, we can also handle the process for you.

What if my tree is in a conservation area?

Trees in conservation areas (common in parts of Leicester) are protected similarly to TPOs. You must give the council 6 weeks’ notice before work, and they may object or impose conditions. There is no fee for obtaining the notice, but fines apply for unauthorized removal. We’ll verify status and submit notices on your behalf.

How long does it take to remove a tree?

The most important factor is the size; a small one can be removed in an hour or two, while a large, 80-foot oak could take an entire day. Accessibility also plays a huge role; a tree in an open field is much quicker to remove than one surrounded by houses, power lines, or other obstacles. However, in most cases we complete the job in less than 3 hours.

How do you handle trees close to power lines, fences, or buildings?

We take extra precautions when removing trees in tight or sensitive spaces. Our team uses advanced rigging techniques, rope systems, and, when necessary, a lift from which to safely lower branches without causing damage. For trees near power lines, we follow strict safety regulations and coordinate with the local utility company if required. Every job is carefully planned to protect nearby structures, fences, and landscaping, ensuring the work is completed safely and with minimal disruption to your property.

How do I prepare my property for tree removal?

Clear the area around the tree of vehicles, furniture, or obstacles. Ensure gates are unlocked for access, and inform neighbors if the work might affect them. If you have dogs, please keep them inside. We’ll advise on specifics during our free inspection, such as protecting lawns or utilities.

Do I need to be home while you do the work?

No, you do not need to be home as long as we have clear and safe access to the property and the tree. Many homeowners prefer to be present at the start to discuss any final details, but this is optional.

Can my tree be saved instead of being removed?

In many cases, your tree can absolutely be saved rather than removed. We can explore options such as crown reduction, crown thinning, crown lifting, targeted pruning, or structural cabling/bracing. These techniques safely reduce size, weight, and risk while preserving the tree’s health, appearance, and environmental benefits. We will explain all viable alternatives, costs, and long-term implications during our visit so you can make an informed decision that best suits your tree and property.

What happens to the tree waste, logs, and branches after removal?

Let us know if you want to keep the wood, or if you want us to cut it into manageable sections so you can make firewood. We will remove the debris that you do not want. Just tell us what you require, and we will do exactly as you instruct. Just keep in mind that the more work, the higher the cost.

Will the stump be removed as part of the service?

It is not included, but we are also happy to remove the stump for you. Should you wish to both remove the tree and the stump, we can probably give you a discount on the total price.

What safety procedures do you have in place?

Before any cutting begins, a thorough site assessment is conducted to identify potential hazards like power lines, unstable branches, and surrounding structures. We then establishe a clear drop zone and escape routes, which are marked off to prevent access by anyone. All workers wear protection, including hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, cut-resistant chaps, and steel-toed boots. For trees in tight spaces, we will do a sectional felling, carefully removing the tree piece by piece in a controlled manner.

Do you have insurance?

Yes, our workers are covered by liability insurance, and we also have general liability insurance.

How many years of experience do you have?

We have more than two decades of experience with tree removal and related services.

Can you provide references or testimonials from past customers?

Yes, we can. Please check out this link for our reviews.

Why Remove A Tree?

Here are some of the most common reasons our clients choose to remove trees:

Construction or renovation: Clearing space for new buildings, extensions, or structures.

Blocking sunlight or views: They can obstruct sunlight from reaching your property or block desirable views.

Safety concerns: Trees that are damaged, old, or crooked can pose a danger to people and property, especially during storms.

Dead or dying: Dead or dying trees can fall unexpectedly, risking harm to people and pets.

Rapid growth: They may grow too large, encroaching on buildings, driveways, sidewalks, power lines, pools, etc.

Disease: If infected with disease or attacked by fungi, trees can be weakened or killed, posing a risk to other plants, structure, and people.

Roots: Roots can damage foundations, sidewalks, driveways, underground water pipes, etc.

Allergies: Some people are allergic to pollen and may want to remove those trees that cause allergy issues.

Debris: Trees that drop large amounts of fruit, seeds, or leaves can create a mess that homeowners may prefer to avoid.

Aesthetic reasons: Trees that are unattractive or do not fit into the landscape design may be removed and replaced with other trees, shrubs, or hedges.

Sectional tree felling

How Do We Fell Trees In Leicester?

We typically conduct tree felling using one of two methods: Straight felling or sectional felling. The choice of method depends on the situation. Let us look at both methods:

Straight Tree Felling In Leicester

Straight felling is the most common method. It involves cutting the tree at the base of the trunk and guiding it to fall in the desired direction in a controlled manner.

To control the direction and timing of the tree’s fall, we create what is called a hinge.

First, we make a face notch (also known as a directional notch). This notch is cut in the direction where we want it to fall. The face notch typically has an angle of approximately 60-70 degrees and is cut to about 25% of the trunk’s diameter.

Step 2 involves creating the back cut. This is a horizontal cut made from the opposite side of the trunk, stopping just short of the face notch created earlier. It’s crucial to leave about 2-4 cm uncut. This uncut portion is the hinge.

By now, the entire trunk is cut through except for this 2-4 cm hinge.

With the tree resting on this hinge, minimal effort is required to make it fall in the direction of the face notch in a controlled manner. We normally use manual power, wedges, ropes, and slings to make it fall as desired.

Straight tree felling

The face notch ensures that it falls in the desired direction and prevents it from tipping sideways or backward.

While straight felling is straightforward and widely used, it’s not always feasible for large trees in Leicester due to limited space. This lack of space can risk damage to nearby buildings, infrastructure, or people.

In such cases, we opt for sectional felling instead.

Sectional Tree Felling In Leicester

Sectional felling is a more complex method for tree removal and often requires more time.

There are two approaches: Climbing up the tree with required safety equipment to perform the work, or utilising a lift. The method chosen will depend on the tree size, surroundings, and potential hazards.

Initially, we start by removing all the branches. After all the branches are cleared, the next step is to cut off the top section of the tree, typically ranging from 1 to 2 metres in length.

Depending on the situation, we can either lower this section to the ground safely and controlled using ropes, or allow it to fall to the ground.

Once this section is safely on the ground, we proceed to the next section, and then the next one, until the entire tree lies on the ground in sections.

This method ensures the entire tree is dismantled into smaller sections, one piece at a time.

Using this approach, we can remove any tree, even in tight or confined spaces.

We Can Also Remove The Tree Stump

After the tree is felled, the stump will remain.

Would you like to keep the stump, or do you prefer to have it removed?

If you opt to have the stump removed, we can also take care of this.

For this task, we utilise a specialised machine known as a stump grinder. It’s capable of grinding away any stump, regardless of its size, type, or condition.

Typically, we grind the stump down to about 30 cm below ground level. Afterwards, we usually fill the resulting hole with wood chips from the stump and top it off with a layer of soil or the existing natural top layer. This ensures a smooth and natural finish.

For example, if the stump were located in a lawn, we would add a layer of soil. Within a few weeks, new grass would start to grow where the stump was.

If you have a preference for a different filling material, please inform us, and we will accommodate your request.

Before completing our work, we ensure to tidy up the area and leave it looking neat.
